Tragic Fire in Delhi Claims Nine Lives, PM Modi Expresses Condolences
Prime Minister's Reaction to the Tragedy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed profound sorrow over the devastating fire incident that occurred in the Vivek Vihar area of Delhi on Sunday. The blaze, which erupted in a four-story building, resulted in the loss of nine lives, including that of a child. PM Modi described the incident as extremely painful and extended his condolences to the affected families.
Compensation Announced by the Prime Minister
In response to the tragedy, PM Modi announced financial assistance for the families of the deceased and those injured. Each family of the deceased will receive ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund, while the injured will be granted ₹50,000. He also wished for the swift recovery of the injured.
Emergency Response and Challenges Faced
The fire department received reports of the blaze at 3:48 AM in the Vivek Vihar Phase-1 building. The flames spread rapidly, engulfing the second, third, and fourth floors. Twelve fire engines were dispatched to the scene to initiate a rescue operation, but the narrow lanes and intense flames posed significant challenges to the rescue efforts.
Possible Cause of the Fire
Initial reports and eyewitness accounts suggest that a loud explosion from an air conditioning unit in the building may have triggered the fire, which then spread quickly. However, the official cause of the fire has yet to be confirmed. Authorities, including police and investigative agencies, are thoroughly examining the incident to determine the exact cause.
