Tragic Fire in Delhi Building Claims Nine Lives
Devastating Fire Incident in Vivek Vihar
New Delhi. A severe fire broke out early Sunday morning around 3:47 AM in a building located in Vivek Vihar, Delhi. This tragic incident has resulted in the deaths of nine individuals, with several others suffering serious burns. Firefighters have managed to control the blaze, and cooling operations are currently underway. Authorities have expressed concerns that the death toll may rise as search operations continue.
According to fire officials, the fire control room received an alert at approximately 3:47 AM. Upon receiving the call, 14 fire engines were dispatched to the scene, initiating a rescue operation to extinguish the flames and evacuate trapped individuals. Rescuers successfully saved over 12 people from the smoke-filled building. The number of fatalities has risen from eight to nine, with four others sustaining severe injuries. The injured have been transported to a nearby hospital.
Preliminary investigations suggest that an air conditioning unit explosion may have caused the fire. The exact floor or area where the fire originated is still under investigation. While the fire has been brought under control, cooling efforts are ongoing.
Reports indicate that the fire started in a flat on the second floor due to the AC explosion, which then spread to the third floor. It is believed that residents on the third floor attempted to escape to the roof but found the door locked, leading to their tragic deaths. Additionally, four individuals on the second floor also lost their lives.
Three bodies were discovered on a bed, according to police reports. The identities of the deceased have not yet been confirmed, as the bodies were found in a severely charred condition. Firefighters have noted that three of the victims were located on a bed.
