Tragic Fire Claims Lives at Goa Nightclub: Owner Vows Support for Victims' Families
Devastating Incident at Birch Nightclub
Panaji: Saurabh Luthra, co-owner of Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub located in Arpora, North Goa, expressed his sorrow on Instagram following a catastrophic fire that resulted in the deaths of 25 individuals. He assured that the management would provide comprehensive support and assistance to those affected by this tragedy.
The tragic incident occurred late Saturday night, approximately 25 kilometers from Panaji, claiming the lives of 20 nightclub employees and five tourists, four of whom were from Delhi.
Investigations by various agencies have uncovered several discrepancies, including the alleged lack of a fire department No Objection Certificate (NOC) and the issuance of a license without adequate documentation.
In his Instagram message, Saurabh Luthra, who is named in the FIR alongside co-owner Gaurav Luthra, expressed that the management is 'deeply shaken' by the loss of life and conveys 'profound grief' over the incident.
'During this time of unimaginable sorrow, we stand firmly with the families of the victims and those injured, offering our heartfelt condolences,' he stated.
'We are committed to providing all necessary assistance and support to those affected as they endure this challenging period,' he added.
The nightclub, situated near the Arpora river, reportedly lacked a fire department NOC, and the small exits combined with a narrow access bridge hindered escape efforts, according to fire officials.
Following the incident, several club managers were arrested, and Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that a police team had been dispatched to Delhi to apprehend the Luthras.
