Jaipur, April 30: A tragic incident occurred on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Alwar district, Rajasthan, where five individuals lost their lives in a horrific car fire. Officials reported that the vehicle caught fire while in motion, with the driver managing to escape but suffering severe injuries.
The accident took place late Wednesday night, as confirmed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Kailash Jindal. The fire erupted around midnight near Pillar Number 115/300, within the Maujpur police jurisdiction. The car was en route from Delhi to Kota when it suddenly ignited for reasons yet to be determined, engulfing the vehicle in flames almost instantly.
Among the deceased were five passengers, including three women, a young girl, and a man, all hailing from Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh. Unfortunately, they were unable to escape the inferno.
The driver, Vinod Kumar Mehar, also from Sheopur, managed to leap from the vehicle but sustained severe burns covering about 80% of his body. He is currently in critical condition and receiving treatment.
Local residents quickly notified the authorities, prompting a response from the NHAI patrol team and an ambulance. A police unit from Laxmangarh, led by SHO Nekiram, arrived shortly after and called in the fire department. Firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, but the car was left completely charred.
The injured driver was first taken to the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Pinan before being transferred to a district hospital in Alwar due to the severity of his injuries. Senior officials, including DSP Jindal and Superintendent of Police Sudhir Chaudhary, visited the scene to oversee the situation and provide necessary instructions.
Authorities are actively working to identify the victims and investigate the cause of the fire.
