Tragic Father's Day Incident: 16-Year-Old Girl Fights for Life After Alleged Assault

Disturbing Incident in Berhampur

Berhampur: A 16-year-old girl is currently battling for her life in a Ganjam district hospital after a tragic incident where she reportedly attempted suicide by ingesting sleeping pills following an alleged assault by her father, who is said to be an alcoholic.

The father was taken into custody on Sunday, coinciding with Father's Day celebrations, and was subsequently remanded to judicial custody on Monday. According to PK Patra, the Inspector-in-Charge of Digapahandi police, the assault occurred on June 11 while the girl was home alone.

At the time, her mother, who works as a domestic helper, was away for work. The father, a daily wage laborer, returned home intoxicated and allegedly committed the act, Patra stated.

After the incident, the girl consumed a significant amount of sleeping pills, leading to her current critical condition at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Once she regained consciousness, she disclosed the details of the incident to her mother, prompting the filing of a police report.

The accused, who has four children—two daughters and two sons—faces charges under various sections of the BNS and POCSO Act.
