Heartbreaking Events Unfold in Tirupati

Tirupati: A devastating incident claimed the lives of five family members within hours in the Tirupati district of Andhra Pradesh. A man, identified as Mohan, took the lives of his wife and mother before tragically ending his own life by lying on a railway track. His two children, who attempted to save him, were also killed by the same train.

This shocking event transpired in the Venkatakrishna Palem panchayat of Narayanavanam mandal on Wednesday.

According to police reports released on Thursday, Mohan, a middle-aged man, strangled his wife, Harita, aged 33, and his mother, Chandrakala, aged 65, using a piece of cloth at their residence on Chakali Veedhi.

Harita was known for running a tailoring shop and a beauty parlour, while Chandrakala was a homemaker.

After committing the murders, Mohan picked up his son, Kaushik (14), and daughter, Harini (12), from their school in Puttur, misleading the teacher by claiming their grandfather had died.

The grim discovery was made by Harita’s brother, Balakrishna, who visited the house to check on Mohan after he failed to return from running an errand for Balakrishna's cement shop.

Upon arriving, Balakrishna was horrified to find both women dead and immediately contacted the police, who quickly formed special teams to locate Mohan.

Investigations revealed that after picking up his children, Mohan drove them around Chittoor and Tirupati before arriving at Vepagunta railway station around 7:15 PM. After parking his motorcycle, he led his children to the railway tracks, where he placed his head on the tracks in a suicide attempt.

In a desperate attempt to save their father, the children tried to pull him away, but tragically, all three were struck by the Egmore-Kacheguda Express traveling at 100 km/h. The train's driver reported the incident to the Puttur station master.

The motives behind Mohan's actions remain unclear. Preliminary police investigations indicated that he did not face financial difficulties and appeared to be mentally stable. Reports suggest he had even given cash to a relative earlier that day to settle a debt with his sister.

The Narayanavanam police have initiated an investigation into the murders, while the railway police have opened a separate case regarding the deaths on the tracks.
