Tragic Family Disputes Lead to Two Murders in Odisha
Violent Incidents in Ganjam District
Berhampur: In a shocking turn of events, two women, including an elderly lady, were reportedly murdered by their relatives in separate incidents within Odisha's Ganjam district, according to police reports.
Both tragic events unfolded on Wednesday night, stemming from ongoing family disputes, as indicated by initial investigations.
In one case, Bijayalaxmi Tripathy, aged 50 and an Asha worker, was brutally killed by her brother-in-law in Chadheyapalli, located in the Jagannath Prasad police jurisdiction.
Sujit Kumar Nayak, the Sub-divisional Police Officer of Bhanjanagar, revealed that Tripathy had been embroiled in a conflict with her three married sisters regarding the division of their ancestral property.
During a heated argument, one of her brothers-in-law attacked her with a sharp weapon, resulting in her immediate death. Her remains have been sent to the Bhanjangar sub-divisional hospital for an autopsy, with the suspect identified but not yet apprehended.
In a separate incident, Ani Swain, an 85-year-old woman, was allegedly killed by her grandson in Naikanipalli, under the jurisdiction of the Kodala police station, as reported by inspector Subash Behera.
A murder case has been filed, and an investigation is currently underway, with the suspected perpetrator detained for questioning.
