Tragic Family Dispute: Daughter-in-Law Allegedly Strangles Mother-in-Law in Sambalpur

Incident Overview
Redhakhol: A tragic incident unfolded in Kutasinga village, located within the Sambalpur district, where a woman is accused of strangling her 55-year-old mother-in-law during a violent altercation late Friday night.
The deceased, identified as Labani Dehury, was the wife of Ganesh Dehury, while the alleged perpetrator, Monalisa Dehury, aged 22, is married to Labani's son, Krushna Chandra Dehury. Reports suggest that Monalisa's brother, Siddhant Nayak, 26, from Kushapali village, may have aided her in this crime.
Following the incident, Labani's husband, Ganesh, filed a complaint at the Redhakhol police station. Authorities responded by registering a case and detaining both Monalisa and Siddhant for further interrogation. The conflict reportedly stemmed from a long-standing strained relationship between Labani and Monalisa, which had worsened since Monalisa's marriage to Krushna two years prior.
Krushna is employed in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, while Ganesh works in Rourkela. At the time of the incident, only Labani and Monalisa were present at home. Neighbors reported that a loud argument erupted between the two women, prompting them to alert Ganesh via phone.
Upon returning home Saturday morning, Ganesh discovered Labani deceased, with visible injuries. He promptly contacted the police. Redhakhol SDPO Prashant Kumar Meher and IIC Chandra Mohan Singh, along with a forensic team, arrived at the scene to initiate an investigation.
Labani's body was sent to the Redhakhol Sub-Divisional Hospital for a post-mortem examination and was later returned to the family for cremation. A case (104/25) has been filed under Sections 103(A), 265, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), with further inquiries ongoing, according to investigating officer Chittaranjan Meher.
