Jajpur: A devastating explosion occurred in Jajpur district, Odisha, on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and leaving another seriously injured, according to police reports.
The blast took place in the afternoon near a local liquor shop along NH-16 in the Chhatia area, as stated by a police officer.
The two victims were riding a motorcycle, while the injured individual was in close proximity.
Authorities suspect that the pair may have been transporting explosive materials on their motorcycle, which detonated unexpectedly, leading to their immediate fatalities, as explained by Jajpur Sub-divisional Police Officer Laxmidhar Swain.
The force of the explosion was so severe that body parts of the deceased were found scattered at the scene.
The identities of the victims remain unknown, as the blast had severely disfigured their bodies, Swain noted.
A forensic team has been dispatched to gather evidence from the explosion site.
The injured person has been transported to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for medical care, reported Ansubala Das, the inspector-in-charge of Bairi police station.
It is believed that the explosives might have been intended for fishing in a nearby pond, though further details will emerge following the investigation.
