Devastating Incident in Maharashtra


On March 1, a catastrophic explosion at an explosives manufacturing facility in Nagpur district, Maharashtra, resulted in the deaths of at least 17 individuals.


The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) conveyed its condolences regarding the incident and announced financial support for the victims' families.


In a statement shared on social media, the PMO expressed, "The explosion at the Nagpur factory is profoundly saddening. I extend my sympathies to the bereaved families and wish for the swift recovery of those injured. Local authorities are providing assistance to those affected. An ex gratia payment of ₹2 lakh will be given to the families of each deceased, while the injured will receive ₹50,000."


The explosion took place at SBL Energy Limited, a company specializing in mining and industrial explosives, situated in Raulgaon within the Katol tehsil of Nagpur district.


The blast's impact was devastating, leading to numerous casualties and injuries. Those injured were promptly transported to hospitals in Nagpur for medical care, as reported by police officials.


Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, described the event as "extremely unfortunate and tragic." He mentioned that he was in continuous communication with local authorities.


He stated, "The District Collector and Superintendent of Police arrived at the scene without delay. Teams from the NDRF and SDRF are present, along with representatives from PESO and DISH. Rescue operations have been escalated, and unfortunately, 17 lives have been lost. I offer my heartfelt condolences to the deceased. We share in the sorrow of their families."


The Chief Minister has mandated a comprehensive investigation into the incident.


Rescue and relief efforts are currently underway, with emergency response teams working to clear debris and investigate the cause of the explosion.
