Devastating Incident in Chhattisgarh

A heartbreaking incident has emerged from the Sakti district of Chhattisgarh, where an explosion at the Vedanta Limited power plant has resulted in the deaths of 14 individuals. This tragic event has sent shockwaves throughout the state, prompting President Droupadi Murmu to express her condolences.


On Wednesday, President Murmu shared her sorrow regarding the fatalities caused by the explosion at the power plant in Sakti district. In a post on social media, she stated, "I am deeply saddened to hear about the loss of lives at the power plant in Sakti district, Chhattisgarh. My heartfelt sympathies go out to the families who have lost their loved ones in this tragic accident. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured."


Details of the Explosion

Officials reported that the explosion occurred on Tuesday afternoon when a steam tube connected to a boiler ruptured at the Vedanta Limited power plant. The blast took place around 2:30 PM in the plant located in Singhitarai village, resulting in severe burn injuries to several employees present at the site.


Sakti's Superintendent of Police, Praful Thakur, informed that police teams promptly arrived at the scene following the alert and prioritized transporting the injured to hospitals near Raigarh. Some critically injured individuals were later referred to other medical facilities for advanced treatment. He noted, "So far, 14 people have lost their lives, and approximately 20 others are receiving treatment at various hospitals. Five individuals have been referred for better medical care. Initial investigations indicate that no one else is trapped, although a thorough examination has been conducted."


Rescue Operations and Government Response

Local authorities and police teams quickly initiated rescue operations. Initially, several injured workers were taken to hospitals in Raigarh and Bilaspur districts, with some reported to be in critical condition.


Compensation and Investigation Announced by CM


Amrit Vikas Topno, the collector of Sakti, stated that the administration's immediate focus is on assisting the affected families. He announced a compensation of ₹35 lakh for the families of each deceased worker and ₹15 lakh for the injured. Additionally, he mentioned that the plant management would cover the medical expenses of the injured.


Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai expressed his sorrow over the incident, describing it as extremely tragic. He announced a relief amount of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured. He also ordered an investigation into the incident, directing that strict action be taken against those found responsible.


The district administration has ordered a magistrate inquiry into the accident, while the company has initiated its own investigation.
