Fatal Incident in Deogarh

Deogarh: A tragic incident unfolded in Aaunli village, located within the Riamal forest range of Deogarh district, where a woman lost her life after being attacked by a tusker on Sunday. The victim, identified as 50-year-old Kalabati Pradhan, was gathering cashew fruits when she unexpectedly encountered a herd of elephants.

Unaware of the elephants' presence, she came too close to a tusker, which then lifted her with its tusk, threw her to the ground, and trampled her. Concerned for her safety, her son began searching for her when she did not return home in a timely manner.

During his search, he discovered his mother’s lifeless body from a distance but could not approach it due to the elephant herd nearby. Eventually, local villagers managed to retrieve her body after successfully driving the elephants away later in the afternoon.

This incident has raised alarm among the community, with residents attributing the tragedy to the negligence of forest officials. However, tensions eased after forest department representatives arrived at the scene, promising a job for the deceased's next of kin, along with financial aid for funeral expenses.
