Tragic Dumper Accident in Jaipur Claims 12 Lives
Devastating Incident in Jaipur
Jaipur, Nov 3: A horrific accident in Jaipur's Harmara area resulted in the deaths of 12 individuals and left over 10 others injured. This tragic event occurred when a high-speed dumper, reportedly driven by an intoxicated driver, lost control and collided with 17 vehicles over a distance of nearly 300 meters on Monday afternoon.
The incident took place around 1 p.m. near Loha Mandi, VKI (Vishwakarma Industrial Area), as the dumper was en route to the Loha Mandi petrol station from Road Number 14, aiming to access the highway.
Witnesses reported that the dumper was traveling at speeds exceeding 100 km/h when it suddenly veered off course, crashing into cars, motorcycles, and pedestrians in rapid succession.
The aftermath was catastrophic, with many victims severely mutilated—some lost limbs, and numerous bodies were strewn across Sikar Road. Vehicles were mangled into twisted metal, and blood was visible along the accident site.
According to police, the dumper was empty and continued to strike vehicles for approximately 300 meters before coming to a stop.
Emergency services were promptly dispatched to transport the injured to nearby hospitals.
The driver was apprehended by local residents at the scene and subsequently handed over to law enforcement.
Initial investigations indicate that he was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident, and he is currently in police custody for questioning.
Police Commissioner Sachin Mittal and Additional Commissioner Rahul Prakash arrived at the scene alongside senior traffic officials.
Rescue efforts persisted for several hours, with cranes and ambulances deployed to clear the wreckage.
Local residents expressed their outrage at the site, calling for the construction of an underpass or safety barriers to avert future tragedies. The police were able to calm the crowd.
The critically injured were transported to the SMS Hospital Trauma Centre, where emergency protocols were activated to manage the influx of casualties. CCTV footage captured the dumper recklessly barreling down the road, indiscriminately crushing everything in its path.
Authorities have initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
