Domestic Violence Leads to Fatality in Bhadrak


Bhadrak: A tragic incident unfolded in Odisha's Bhadrak district, where a five-month pregnant woman lost her life following an alleged assault by her husband during a domestic dispute, as reported by local authorities on Sunday.


The victim, Monalisa Jena, had been married to Sankarshan Jena for five years, and they shared a three-year-old daughter.


The violent episode occurred in Talpada village within the jurisdiction of Tihidi police on Saturday night.


According to police reports, a disagreement over family issues escalated into a physical confrontation.


Sankarshan, who was reportedly intoxicated at the time, allegedly kicked and struck Monalisa during the altercation.


After the assault, Monalisa fell to the ground, calling for assistance before losing consciousness. She was immediately taken to Tihidi hospital and subsequently referred to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where she was pronounced dead upon arrival.


Monalisa's family has lodged a formal complaint with the Tihidi police, accusing her husband of murder.


"We have initiated a case based on the complaint filed by Panchanan Jena, the father of the deceased, and have taken the accused into custody. An investigation is currently ongoing," stated Satyabrata Grahyacharya, the IIC of Tihidi police station.


The police have also sent the body for a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death.
