Domestic Violence Incident Shocks Local Community

Harabhanga: A tragic incident unfolded late Friday night when a man reportedly took his wife's life using an axe during a domestic dispute in a slum area near the Purunakatak police station in Boudh district.

The victim has been identified as Kuni Guru, aged 35. Her husband, Sajan Pradhan, 38, has been apprehended and was presented in court on Saturday.

Authorities have filed a case (114/25) at the Purunakatak police station and are currently investigating the matter.

Sajan, originally from Tukulunda village in the Harabhanga block, had been married to Kuni, who hails from the nearby village of Lokapada, for approximately a decade after a romantic courtship.

The couple, who belonged to different castes, had been working as migrant laborers in another state before returning to Odisha a few years ago, where they were residing in a rented accommodation.

Reports indicate that a heated argument erupted between the two on Friday night, culminating in Sajan striking Kuni with an axe.

She was immediately transported to Purunakatak hospital in critical condition but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

After the incident, Sajan turned himself in at the police station.

The deceased's body has been sent to the Boudh District Headquarters Hospital for an autopsy.
