Tragic Domestic Dispute in Odisha Leads to Attack and Suicide

Incident in Bheunria Village

Odisha: A distressing event occurred in Bheunria village on Saturday afternoon, where a man reportedly assaulted his wife before taking his own life. Reports indicate that a domestic disagreement escalated, resulting in the man attacking his spouse with a sharp object.

The individual, identified as 52-year-old Shyama Bhoi, was believed to be suffering from mental health issues. It has been reported that he frequently engaged in disputes with his wife. The victim, 47-year-old Ratni Bhoi, was allegedly struck with an axe. Earlier that day, Shyama returned home under the influence of alcohol, which triggered a confrontation between the couple.

What began as a verbal disagreement quickly intensified into a violent altercation. Shyama then seized an axe from a nearby location and brutally attacked Ratni. Their children promptly transported her to a local community health center for medical attention. Following the incident, Shyama fled the scene and subsequently died by suicide, reportedly by hanging.

Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter, working to piece together a comprehensive timeline of the events. According to Padampur IIC Mamata Naik, "The woman is currently receiving treatment. We will take her statement once she is in a stable condition."
