On Thursday morning, two teenage sports trainees were discovered hanging in their room at the SAI women's hostel in Kollam, prompting police to initiate an investigation into the possibility of suicide. The deceased have been identified as 17-year-old Sandra, who was training in athletics from Kozhikode district, and 15-year-old Vaishnavi, a 10th-grade student from Thiruvananthapuram district, known for her skills in kabaddi. Both girls resided in the SAI hostel and were part of its sports training program.
Circumstances Surrounding the Discovery
The incident came to light around 5:00 AM when the girls failed to attend their morning training session. Hostel officials knocked repeatedly on Sandra's door but received no response. They eventually forced the door open, only to find both girls hanging from the ceiling fan. Vaishnavi, who typically stayed in a different room, had spent the previous night in Sandra's room, as confirmed by other girls residing in the hostel who had seen them early that morning.
