Tragic Discovery: Missing Delhi University Student Found Dead in Yamuna River

Missing Student's Body Recovered
A 19-year-old student from Delhi University, Sneha Debnath, who had been missing since July 7, was found dead in the Yamuna River on Sunday. She was last seen near the Signature Bridge, prompting extensive search efforts by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and local police, particularly focusing on areas between Nigambodh Ghat and Noida.
Circumstances Surrounding Her Disappearance
The police confirmed that Sneha's body was discovered near the Geeta Colony flyover. According to a police statement, she was reported missing from her residence in South Delhi. An FIR was filed at the Mehrauli police station, initiating the search for her.
Authorities revealed that Sneha left a handwritten note indicating her intention to jump from a bridge into the river. They tracked her movements through technical surveillance, confirming she was last seen at the Signature Bridge. A taxi driver who dropped her off corroborated this, and several witnesses reported seeing a girl standing on the bridge before she vanished.
Search Operations and Findings
The search operation, aided by the NDRF and local police, was concentrated on the areas from Nigambodh Ghat to Noida. Officials later confirmed that Sneha's body was spotted floating in the river beneath the Geeta Colony flyover, where her family subsequently identified her.
Before her disappearance, Sneha had sent messages to her close friends via email and messaging apps. Friends informed investigators that she had been feeling distressed and emotionally troubled in recent months.
Concerns Over Surveillance
Sneha's family and friends expressed concerns regarding the surveillance infrastructure around the Signature Bridge. A close friend claimed that at the time she was seen, no CCTV cameras in the area were operational. They noted that the bridge falls under the jurisdiction of multiple police stations, yet none of the installed cameras were functioning.
Meanwhile, Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha confirmed Sneha's disappearance on social media, stating she was a resident of Sabroom in southern Tripura, and urged the police to take immediate action.
