Body Recovered from Deep Gorge

Guwahati, June 2: The remains of Raja Raghuvanshi, one half of a couple reported missing from Indore, were discovered on Monday morning in a steep gorge close to Weisawdong falls in Sohra.

His brother was able to identify the body, confirming the tragic news.

The body, which was in an advanced state of decomposition, was located through drone surveillance near the Riat Arliang parking area and was retrieved by rescue teams from the gorge.

A senior police official stated that a magistrate has been appointed to oversee the investigation. Efforts to locate the missing wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, are still ongoing.

The couple had traveled to Meghalaya on May 22 to see the renowned Double Decker Root Bridge in Nongriat.

After hiring a local guide, they checked out from their homestay in Nongriat early on May 23 but failed to return to Mawlakhiat village, where they had left their rented scooter.

Despite the area's popularity among tourists, there have been no confirmed sightings of the couple since their departure from Nongriat.

On the evening of May 24, the Sordar of Sohrarim reported finding an abandoned scooter linked to the couple, which led relatives to file a missing persons report.

Since then, extensive search and rescue operations have been conducted, involving three teams, K9 units, drones from NESAC, and specialized personnel navigating the challenging terrain of Nongriat, Pyndemdkhar, Mawlakhiat, Mawsahew, Wahkaliar, and Weisawdong.

Authorities and family members remain hopeful for further updates as the search continues in this difficult landscape.
