Jaipur, Oct 26: In a distressing turn of events, two students preparing for competitive exams have tragically lost their lives in separate incidents in Kota, Rajasthan, prompting police inquiries, officials reported on Monday.
A 16-year-old student from Shivpuri, Madhya Pradesh, who was preparing for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), was discovered hanging in his paying guest accommodation in the Jawahar Nagar police jurisdiction on Sunday night. Earlier that same day, a 19-year-old NEET aspirant from Darbhanga, Bihar, was found unconscious in his hostel bathroom.
Authorities are currently investigating both cases, as the details surrounding the deaths remain ambiguous.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Manish Sharma stated that the 16-year-old had been residing in a PG facility in Mahavir Nagar-I for about six months, focusing on his JEE preparations.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Mahendra Singh from the Jawahar Nagar police station reported that the student had returned from his coaching center after taking a test on Sunday. Around 10 p.m., a fellow student from the adjacent room attempted to reach him. When there was no response despite repeated knocks, the PG manager was alerted. Upon checking through a window, the manager discovered the student hanging inside the locked room. Police arrived, retrieved the body, and transported it to MBS Hospital.
The family of the deceased was notified that night and traveled to Kota. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of death.
In a separate case, the 19-year-old NEET aspirant was found unconscious in the bathroom of his hostel located in the Landmark area, under the Kunhadi police station's jurisdiction.
Assistant Sub-Inspector Dhanraj noted that this student, originally from Darbhanga, Bihar, had been in Kota for about two years to prepare for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and was residing at Shreeji Residency.
On October 24, around 1 p.m., he returned to the hostel with food. When fellow students knocked on his door later without receiving a reply, they grew concerned. On October 25, his brother, who also stayed in the same hostel, attempted to contact him. After receiving no response, the hostel management was informed.
The management broke down the door and found him unconscious in the bathroom. He was rushed to MBS Hospital, where he succumbed a few hours later.
Reports indicate a minor injury near his ear, possibly from a fall in the bathroom. The exact details surrounding the injury and his death are still under investigation.
The family of the NEET aspirant has expressed doubts about the circumstances of his death and is demanding a comprehensive investigation.
In light of the family's complaint, police have registered a case under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code.
Investigations into both incidents are ongoing, with authorities working to clarify the circumstances of these tragic events.
