Fatalities from Contaminated Milk in Rajamahendravaram

In a distressing incident in Rajamahendravaram, Andhra Pradesh, four individuals have succumbed to acute renal failure after allegedly consuming tainted milk. Reports indicate that the fatalities occurred between Saturday and Monday, with three of the deceased being elderly citizens.

Additionally, at least eight others have fallen ill due to the same milk, suffering from anuria, which is characterized by the kidneys' inability to produce urine. These patients are currently receiving medical care in Rajamahendravaram and Kakinada, with three of them being children under four years old and in critical condition.

Symptoms of renal failure began to manifest a day after the Maha Shivratri festival, which took place on February 15, according to local residents.

District Collector Kirthi Chekuri confirmed that all affected individuals had consumed milk from a single vendor, who is now in custody for questioning. This milk was sourced from over 40 dairy farmers and distributed to more than 100 families in the area.

Samples have been collected from 75 families for analysis, as stated by the chief minister’s office. Forensic tests are being conducted on both the milk and the fodder provided to the cattle.

Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has taken note of the situation and reviewed the developments on Monday.
