Kullu:
Authorities discovered the body of a young man near a hotel in the Aut area of Kullu district, with early investigations indicating that extreme cold may have led to his demise as Himachal Pradesh endures one of its coldest spells this season.

The police reported that the unidentified youth's body was located close to a hotel in the Aut market area. No identification documents were found with him. Preliminary evaluations suggest that exposure to the severe cold was the cause of death. The body has been sent to the Regional Hospital in Mandi for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause. Superintendent of Police Sakshi Verma confirmed the incident, while ASI Rajan Kumar mentioned that further inquiries are ongoing.

Cold Wave Intensifies Across Himachal Pradesh

The cold wave has tightened its grip on the state, with frigid temperatures reported in many areas. Recent snowfall in the higher elevations of Chamba and Lahaul-Spiti has exacerbated the chill.

At least 20 locations in Himachal Pradesh have recorded minimum temperatures below 5°C, with five stations experiencing temperatures below freezing. Solan also reported sub-zero temperatures, while nighttime temperatures in Shimla continue to decline.

Tabo in Lahaul-Spiti has been noted as the coldest spot in the state, with temperatures dropping to -10.2°C. Kukumseri recorded -6.7°C, and Kalpa saw -4.2°C. In Kinnaur, the famous Nako Lake has completely frozen, attracting tourists who are enjoying skating on its icy surface.

Snowfall in High Altitudes, Fog Disrupts Transportation

Fresh snowfall has been reported in several high-altitude regions. The Pangi area of Chamba, including Killar and nearby villages such as Chasak, Sural, Parmar Bhatori, and Hudan, experienced significant snow accumulation. Snowfall was also noted around Rohtang Pass, Koksar, Sissu, and near the Atal Tunnel Rohtang late in the evening. The higher reaches of the Manikaran valley in Kullu district also received fresh snow.

Meanwhile, dense fog in the plains has disrupted transportation services. The Vande Bharat Express from New Delhi arrived in Una approximately half an hour late on Sunday due to poor visibility. Foggy conditions were reported in Kala Amb, Paonta Sahib, Nahan, Kangra district, and Sundernagar, while Mandi experienced moderate fog during the morning hours.

The Meteorological Centre in Shimla has indicated that light rain or snowfall is possible at isolated high-altitude locations. Following this, the weather is expected to remain mostly clear across the state until January 11. While no significant changes in minimum temperatures are anticipated over the next 24 hours, a gradual drop of 2-3°C is expected over the next three to four days. Maximum temperatures may see a slight increase in lower and mid-hill areas, although cold conditions will persist in higher elevations.
