Tragic Death of Three-Year-Old Sparks Outrage Over Tamil Nadu's Law and Order
Incident Overview
In a heartbreaking incident in Tiruvallur district, Tamil Nadu, a three-year-old girl has reportedly died following an alleged sexual assault. This tragic event has led opposition leaders, including Udayanidhi Stalin and AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, to harshly criticize the state of law and order under Chief Minister Vijay's administration. The accused, a resident of Bihar, has been arrested in connection with the alleged sexual abuse of the minor. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the SIPCOT police station in the Gummidipoondi sub-division.
Political Reactions
Investigations by the police revealed that only one individual was involved in this case, with both the accused and the victim hailing from Bihar. Udayanidhi Stalin expressed his shock on social media, condemning the administration of the newly elected Chief Minister Vijay. He urged the police to identify the true culprits and ensure they face severe punishment. He stated, "It is deeply distressing and shocking to learn that a three-year-old child was sexually exploited and then discarded in the bushes near Gummidipoondi, leading to her death." He emphasized the need for the police to apprehend the actual offenders and ensure they receive appropriate penalties, criticizing the rise in criminal incidents in Tamil Nadu under the current administration.
Allegations Against the Ruling Party
Stalin further accused members of the ruling party, TVK, of perpetrating sexual violence against women. He alleged that Vijay had exploited children during the assembly elections to solicit illegal votes while failing to ensure their safety. He highlighted incidents where a party member was involved in the sexual assault of over 50 women in Salem, and another party official assaulted a widow in Alandur. He also mentioned that shortly after the launch of 'Singappen Padi' (Lioness Brigade), a female police officer was sexually assaulted in Shivaganga.
Call for Action
Stalin described the law and order situation in the state as being on 'life support.' He accused the Chief Minister of neglecting public safety in favor of political maneuvers and demanded immediate action. He remarked, "The law and order situation in Tamil Nadu has deteriorated to such an extent that it is almost on life support. Over a month has passed since the government took office, yet the Chief Minister has not taken any concrete steps to rectify the law and order issues." He urged the Chief Minister to prioritize maintaining law and order rather than focusing on 'buying' members from other parties. To address the declining law and order, he called for an urgent high-level meeting with police officials to issue strict directives to district and zonal officers to prevent crime. He warned that if such incidents continue, the DMK would not hesitate to mobilize the public for protests.
