Incident at SMS Hospital

A tragic incident at the Sawai Man Singh Hospital in Jaipur has led to the death of a woman, prompting her family to protest vehemently. The hospital administration has denied any negligence on their part. However, the family claims that the woman's death resulted from receiving the wrong blood type. Documents related to the case have surfaced, indicating possible lapses in hospital procedures.

The 23-year-old woman from Niwai in Tonk district was admitted to the emergency department on May 12. She was placed on a ventilator and was five months pregnant, with her unborn child's heartbeat not detectable. Dr. Sunil Bhati, the hospital superintendent, stated that the woman was in critical condition upon arrival, necessitating immediate ventilator support.

Investigation Underway

An investigation is currently being conducted to determine whether incorrect blood was administered. The woman had been referred to Jaipur from Tonk. According to the superintendent, she was suffering from tuberculosis and pregnancy-related complications. Initially, she was provided with oxygen support, but as her condition worsened, she was placed on a BiPAP machine. When her situation did not improve, she was put on a ventilator on May 15.

Delivery Under Critical Conditions

Given her deteriorating health, doctors called in specialists from the gynecology department, and on May 19, the woman delivered while still on the ventilator. Following the delivery, her hemoglobin levels dropped significantly, necessitating a blood transfusion. The tuberculosis had severely impacted her lung function, ultimately leading to her death.
