Sara Gilson, a 43-year-old influencer from Oklahoma, was tragically shot by her estranged husband, Jeremiah "Shawn" Duffey, aged 47, in a shocking incident that unfolded in Owasso. Reports indicate that moments before their bodies were discovered, Gilson's underage son made a desperate 911 call, during which he informed the dispatcher that his stepfather had shot his mother. The call reportedly captured the sound of a woman screaming and crying, followed by a gunshot.
This heartbreaking event occurred shortly after Gilson shared a TikTok video where she humorously speculated about a potential Netflix documentary regarding her estranged husband, whom she had recently accused of being a pedophile. In her post, she expressed, "Preparing for when Netflix drops a documentary about my soon to be ex-husband who I just found out is a pedophile," adding, "I wish I was joking." Court documents reveal that Gilson had sought a protective order against Duffey, which she had requested to remain in effect during a court appearance last month.
Additionally, another woman had filed a protective order against Duffey on the same day, alleging inappropriate behavior towards her 15-year-old daughter, who was part of a youth basketball team he coached. The allegations included inappropriate messages and an invitation to his hotel room during a tournament, where he allegedly offered money to the girl to keep quiet. These claims were reported to the Owasso Police Department, although it remains unclear if Duffey was under investigation prior to his death.
Gilson's protective order referenced these allegations, stating that Duffey had threatened suicide and had gone into hiding while armed. Previous attempts by Gilson to secure protective orders against Duffey in 2021 were dismissed due to her absence at hearings. In her most recent case, a judge mandated that Duffey vacate the family home and maintain a distance of at least 100 yards from Gilson, with the order extended until August 24.
In the days leading up to her death, Gilson shared two additional TikTok videos that seemed to reflect her emotional state. One video featured her with a friend on a boat, captioned: "Everyone talks about romantic love, but no one talks about how female friendships literally save your life." Another video, filmed on a yacht, conveyed a more somber message: "May whatever the f*** that was never find me again." Meanwhile, Duffey's TikTok account included posts about his personal experiences, including one that stated, "Apparently every girl's ex was toxic, controlling, and manipulative." A GoFundMe campaign has been initiated to assist Gilson's two children, highlighting the profound loss felt by the community and emphasizing the love and dedication she had for her children. As of Sunday afternoon, the campaign had raised nearly $27,000.
