New Delhi, July 6: A tragic incident has unfolded in Delhi's Lodhi Colony, where a 28-year-old woman was discovered dead just two months after her wedding. Officials reported that the family of the deceased, identified as Akriti Sutar, has accused her in-laws of murder, claiming she endured ongoing dowry harassment.

Akriti married Arastu Sikka on April 24, and her death occurred on Saturday, a mere 72 days later. Initial investigations suggest she may have fallen from a building, but her family firmly believes she was murdered.

On the day of her death, Akriti returned to work after taking several days off. Her family has rejected the notion of suicide, asserting that her demeanor throughout the day showed no signs of distress. They noted that she had even organized a small gathering for her colleagues, appearing cheerful and upbeat.

During a phone call with her mother around 6 p.m. on Saturday, Akriti discussed the office event and mentioned she was on her way home, sounding completely normal and without any indication of trouble.

Her uncle, Mananjay Sutar, recounted that they received a call from Arastu at approximately 8 p.m., stating that Akriti was missing. Shortly thereafter, police informed the family that a woman's body had been found at Palika Kunj in Lodhi Colony.

Reports indicate that Akriti, who worked as a sales executive in Chhatarpur, lived in Pushp Vihar. Her body was located within a residential complex in Lodhi Colony, about 10 kilometers from her residence. While police suspect a fall, the precise details surrounding her death remain unclear.

Amay Sutar, Akriti's younger brother, dismissed the idea of suicide, asserting that his sister was mentally resilient and would not have taken such an action.

The family has alleged that Akriti faced relentless dowry demands since her marriage, claiming that her husband and his family sought Rs 20 lakh and subjected her to threats and mistreatment.

They further alleged that Arastu had threatened her life multiple times and that the couple had a significant argument just two days prior to her death.

Having been in a relationship for eight years before their marriage, Akriti's family noted that Arastu is currently unemployed.

Authorities have stated that the investigation is ongoing, with all angles, including the family's allegations, being thoroughly examined.
