Mussoorie, June 16: A vacation intended for celebration turned into a nightmare for a newly married couple from Delhi when the wife was discovered dead under mysterious circumstances in their homestay room in Mussoorie. This incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and has led to a thorough police investigation.

Police Investigation

Authorities have gathered evidence from the scene and have sent the body for a post-mortem examination while launching an extensive inquiry to determine the cause of death.

According to reports, the police control room received a call around 7 a.m. on Sunday, indicating that a woman at Kiyana Homestay in Tipridhar, situated on the Mussoorie-Dhanolti road, was found unconscious in her room.

A team from the local police and an ambulance service promptly arrived at the location. Upon examination, Rakesh Kumar, the pharmacist with the ambulance team, confirmed her death.

Details of the Victim

The deceased has been identified as P. Radha Gayatri, 27, from East Delhi. She had traveled to Mussoorie with her husband, Saumya Sricharan. The couple had arrived in Rishikesh from Delhi on June 13 and checked into the homestay late on June 14.

The husband reported that they had consumed alcohol the previous night and went to bed around 3:30 a.m. When he awoke the next morning, he found his wife unconscious on the floor, with blood coming from her nose and no signs of life. He quickly alerted the staff at the homestay, who then contacted the police.

Scene Investigation

Police and forensic teams conducted a thorough examination of the room. The investigation revealed that the woman was found naked on the floor, with bloodstains on the bedsheet. Additionally, two empty liquor bottles and leftover food were discovered in the room.

The Dehradun forensic unit collected vital samples and evidence from the scene, documenting the entire area through videography and photography as part of their investigation.

Background Information

Initial inquiries indicated that the couple had tied the knot on November 8, 2025. The husband works for an IT firm in Pune, while the wife is employed in Gurugram. This trip was reportedly a post-wedding getaway.

Due to the sensitive nature of the case, inquest proceedings were conducted in the presence of an Executive Magistrate and the Naib Tehsildar. The body was sent to Coronation Hospital in Dehradun, where a panel of doctors has been assigned to perform the post-mortem examination, which is also being recorded on video.

Family Response

Following the incident, the deceased's in-laws arrived in Mussoorie, while her parents were expected to travel from Visakhapatnam later that night. Both families hail from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh.

Mussoorie Station House Officer (SHO) Devendra Chauhan stated that the cause of death is still undetermined. He mentioned that a clearer understanding will emerge once the post-mortem and forensic examination results are available. The police are exploring all possible angles, including natural causes and any underlying health issues.
