Tragic Death of Kidney Patient in Madhya Pradesh Sparks Inquiry

Mandla (Madhya Pradesh), August 1: A tragic incident occurred when a 21-year-old kidney patient lost his life while being transported to a district hospital in Mandla, Madhya Pradesh. The ambulance reportedly ran out of oxygen during the journey, prompting local authorities to initiate an investigation.
Details of the Incident
Ajit Baraiya, who lived in Sunhara Mal village, passed away on July 27 while being transferred from Bamhani Hospital to the district hospital. His family claims that the oxygen supply ceased midway, leaving him struggling to breathe before he ultimately died.
The family stated they had alerted the 108 ambulance service about Ajit's severe breathing issues and his need for oxygen. They alleged that oxygen was only administered after the ambulance departed for the district hospital, and the cylinder depleted approximately three kilometers into the trip.
Investigation Launched
A video that emerged following the incident reportedly shows the oxygen pressure gauge in the ambulance reading zero. In response, Mandla Collector Rahul Namdev Dhote established a four-member inquiry committee, which includes medical professionals and revenue officials, to investigate the circumstances surrounding the case.
Describing the event as “unfortunate,” Dhote stated that the inquiry would assess both the medical treatment provided to the patient and the operational efficiency of the ambulance service.
Potential Consequences
According to the Collector, the committee will look into the medical aspects of the situation as well as any negligence related to the ambulance's maintenance and operation. “The report is expected promptly,” he added.
Furthermore, the investigation will determine if the ambulance service adhered to the operational guidelines for emergency vehicles. Dhote warned that if any violations or negligence are uncovered, strict legal action would follow.
Family's Grief
Ajit's father, speaking to reporters at a government hospital, expressed his belief that the tragedy could have been prevented. “My son was gasping for air. I repeatedly informed the ambulance staff that he required oxygen. Had oxygen been available throughout the journey, my son would still be alive,” he lamented.
