Tragic Death of Kanpur Lawyer Raises Concerns Over Mental Health

Priyanshu Srivastava's sister, Garima, expressed her grief, stating, "My brother was a wonderful person who loved everyone. But that day, he was crying and seemed very troubled." The tragic passing of Priyanshu, a young lawyer from the Barra area of Kanpur, has devastated his family and highlighted the mental pressures faced by young professionals.

According to media reports, Garima recounted that upon returning from her exam, she found her brother in tears. She attempted to comfort him over the phone. The family believes that Priyanshu was under significant stress due to his professional obligations and pending payments.

Suicide Note and Serious Allegations

The police discovered a two-page suicide note from Priyanshu via social media. In this note, he recounted painful childhood memories and accused his father, Rajendra Kumar Srivastava, of mental torture and excessive strictness. DCP East, Satyajit Gupta, mentioned that CCTV footage captured Priyanshu talking on the phone shortly before his death. Authorities are currently investigating the authenticity of the suicide note and the troubling experiences mentioned.

On the other hand, Priyanshu's mother, Neetu Srivastava, defended her husband, stating that both she and her husband cared deeply for their children. She asserted that the incidents referenced in the note did not involve her husband.

Father's Perspective

Rajendra Kumar Srivastava dismissed all allegations, claiming he was merely concerned for his son's safety. He explained that when Priyanshu wanted to go out with friends, they would advise against it due to traffic concerns and suggest ordering food instead. Reflecting on the day of the incident, he mentioned a minor argument over a curtain, during which he reprimanded Priyanshu, possibly affecting him deeply.

Rajendra recounted, "On the day of the incident, as I was leaving for work, I accidentally left the curtain outside. When Priyanshu opened the door, the curtain moved, and he shouted about it. I called him over and questioned the way he spoke, reminding him of the values we taught him."

Work Pressure and Behavioral Changes

Garima noted that Priyanshu's behavior had become increasingly erratic; he would swing from happiness to deep sadness. Alongside his legal career, he managed a cyber café but was stressed due to unpaid dues amounting to millions.

Currently, the police are treating this as a case of suicide. ACP Ashutosh Kumar Singh stated that the family has not yet filed a formal complaint. This incident has sparked a new discussion regarding father-son relationships and the mental health of youth in Kanpur.
