Tragic Death of 27-Year-Old Woman Sparks Investigation in Kurukshetra
Investigation Launched After Woman Found Dead
Kurukshetra, August 5 - A 27-year-old woman was discovered hanging in her home just eight months after her marriage. Authorities reported this incident on Wednesday. According to police, the woman was found hanging from a ceiling fan on Tuesday, prompting them to file a case against her husband and in-laws based on allegations of dowry harassment.
The deceased has been identified as Kajal. She left behind a note stating that she was unwell. Ranveer Singh, the officer in charge of the Thanesar police station, mentioned that Kajal had returned to her in-laws' house from her parental home on Tuesday morning.
Her husband, Harpreet Singh, who serves as a sub-divisional officer at the Haryana State Pollution Control Board in Kaithal, reportedly discovered her body first. Police found a handkerchief in the room with a handwritten message that read, 'I’m not well, sorry.' This note has been sent for verification.
Authorities noted that a chair was placed under the fan, suggesting a possible scenario. Kajal's father, Harpal Singh, alleged that after Harpreet's appointment as SDO on November 29, 2025, his daughter faced continuous harassment for dowry. He claimed that they had given eight lakh rupees for a car at the time of the wedding, but later, Kajal's in-laws demanded more money for a larger vehicle.
Ranveer Singh confirmed that the police have registered a case against the husband and his family under Section 80 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) concerning dowry-related deaths and other relevant provisions. He also mentioned that two doctors conducted an autopsy on the body on Wednesday.
