Tragic Cylinder Explosion Claims Lives of Four Workers in Assam

Silchar, July 28 - In a tragic incident at a foundry unit in Cachar district, Assam, four workers lost their lives due to a suspected cylinder explosion that occurred two days ago. Authorities reported that five individuals, including the owner of the facility, have been arrested in connection with the case.

Arrests Made

A senior police official revealed that Rakesh Kumar Surana, the owner of the foundry, was apprehended on Monday in Guwahati and subsequently taken to the Udharbond police station in Cachar for questioning. He faces charges of negligence regarding the maintenance of essential safety measures at the facility.

In addition to Surana, four others, including the manager who was detained immediately after the incident, were also arrested on the same day. To further the investigation, forensic experts are scheduled to visit the site.

Details of the Explosion

The explosion occurred on Sunday in a shared complex located in the Udharbond police station area of Pangram. Several other individuals sustained injuries as a result of the blast. Preliminary investigations suggest that the explosion was caused by a gas leak from a kitchen gas cylinder being used during the foundry operations.

Victims Identified

The Chief Minister's Office (CMO) has confirmed the identities of the deceased as Kiran Munda, Appu Baraik, Shyamal Gaur, and Sagar Nath. The Chief Minister announced a compensation of five lakh rupees each from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for the families of the victims.
