Devastating Incident at RCB Celebration
A tragic crowd surge occurred outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru during the celebration of RCB's IPL victory, resulting in the loss of 11 lives and numerous injuries. This unfortunate event has left not only sports enthusiasts but the entire state of Karnataka in deep shock.
In response to the incident, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah took decisive action, ordering accountability for those responsible. On Friday, Bengaluru police arrested Nikhil Sosale, the marketing and revenue head of RCB, along with Kiran Kumar, a senior event manager from DNA Entertainment Network, and Vice President Sunil Maithy.
The tragedy unfolded as thousands of fans gathered outside the stadium to celebrate RCB's IPL win. The event was organized by RCB, DNA Entertainment Network, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association. However, a significant failure in crowd management and inadequate security measures turned the celebration into a disaster. Eyewitnesses reported that there was insufficient police presence to control the crowd, and the organizers miscalculated the number of attendees.
Taking the incident seriously, CM Siddaramaiah made several critical decisions during a cabinet meeting on Thursday. He announced the formation of a single-judge commission led by retired Karnataka High Court Justice Michael D. Cunha to investigate the incident.
The commission has been instructed to submit its report within 30 days. Additionally, the Chief Minister suspended several senior Bengaluru police officials with immediate effect, including Police Commissioner B. Dayanand, Additional Police Commissioner Vikas Kumar, DCP Shekhar H. Tekkanavar, the inspector of Cubbon Park police station, and other lower-ranking officers.
