Crocodile Attack in Kendrapara District


Kendrapara: A tragic incident occurred on Monday in Odisha's Kendrapara district, where a 45-year-old woman lost her life due to a crocodile attack, as reported by a forest department official.


The attack happened in Tanladia village, located within the Rajnagar forest range, close to the Bhitarkanika National Park.


According to Chitaranjan Beura, the forest range officer, the crocodile pulled the woman into deep waters while she was bathing in the Kharasrota river.


The official mentioned that the family of the deceased will receive an ex gratia payment.


Following updated guidelines, the forest department is set to provide a compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family after all necessary medico-legal procedures are completed.


This incident adds to the alarming trend of human-crocodile conflicts near the national park, which have resulted in 11 fatalities over the past 22 months.
