Tragic Collision in Nagaon: Two Lives Lost in SUV Fire

Guwahati, Sept 24: Authorities are still working to identify two individuals who tragically lost their lives when their vehicle ignited after colliding with an electric pole on a divider along National Highway 127 in Assam's Nagaon district.
According to officials, two other individuals injured in the crash are from Bihar and are currently receiving medical care at Nagaon Medical College and Hospital.
One of the injured reported that the two deceased passengers were traveling from Arunachal Pradesh to Guwahati. Unfortunately, the bodies of the victims were severely burned, complicating identification efforts.
The SUV, registered in Arunachal Pradesh, was heading towards Guwahati from the Kaliabor direction.
Reports indicate that around 5:20 AM, the vehicle collided with the divider and an electric pole. The impact caused the SUV to roll over into the opposite lane of the highway, where it quickly caught fire.
Nagaon District Commissioner Aranyak Saikia mentioned that speeding is suspected to have contributed to the accident.
“The crash occurred near a curve, but there are rumble strips installed on both sides. A thorough investigation will determine the exact cause of the incident,” he stated.
Saikia also noted that a collaborative investigation involving the police and the District Transport Officer is currently in progress.
