Fatal Accident on National Highway 353

Nuapada: A tragic incident occurred late Friday night when a truck collided head-on with a motorcycle near the Daldali village square on National Highway 353, resulting in the deaths of two men.

The victims have been identified as Khyamasagar Dharua, aged 33, and Purendra Dharua, 45, both hailing from Diamunda village in the Kurumapuri panchayat.

Earlier that day, Khyamasagar's wife, Brunda Dharua, was admitted to the Taraboda Primary Health Centre due to labor. She successfully gave birth to a baby boy around 4:30 PM.

Both mother and child were reported stable and discharged with medication by 10 PM.

While Brunda and the newborn were transported home in an ambulance, Khyamasagar and Purendra rode on a motorcycle.

Tragically, a truck traveling in the opposite direction struck them near Daldali Square, causing both riders to be thrown onto the roadway.

Local residents and police quickly rushed them to the Nuapada District Headquarters Hospital, where they were pronounced dead by medical staff.

The Lakhna police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and initiated an investigation, as the speeding truck fled the scene.

On Saturday, family members, villagers, and social activists protested outside the hospital, demanding compensation for the bereaved families. Each family received financial assistance of Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000.
