Devastating Cloudburst Hits Kathua District

A tragic incident occurred in the Jod Ghati village of Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, where a cloudburst resulted in the deaths of four individuals and left six others injured. This calamity struck during the night between Saturday and Sunday, disrupting access to the village and inflicting significant damage to properties and agricultural land.

This disaster follows a recent flash flood in Kishtwar district, which claimed the lives of 60 people and injured over 100 due to another cloudburst. The earlier incident occurred near Chashoti village, highlighting the region's vulnerability to such natural disasters.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh, representing the Udhampur constituency, reported via social media that the cloudburst also caused damage to critical infrastructure, including the railway track, national highway, and a police station in Kathua.

Singh assured that the civilian administration, along with military and paramilitary forces, is actively engaged in managing the situation and providing assistance.

Jammu and Kashmir's Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and instructed officials to implement relief and evacuation efforts in the affected areas.

In light of the ongoing weather conditions, the Kathua district administration has issued a warning regarding potential heavy rainfall, advising residents to steer clear of water bodies and hazardous areas prone to landslides.

Meanwhile, security forces have intensified their rescue operations in Kishtwar, aiming to assist those impacted by the earlier flash flood. Major General Bal emphasized their commitment to rescuing individuals and providing necessary relief to the local population affected by these disasters.
