Agartala, Dec 18: A tragic incident occurred in Kamalpur sub-division of Tripura's Dhalai district on Wednesday, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and leaving several others injured when the chimney of ABC Brick Industry unexpectedly fell.
According to Suman Acharya, the Officer-in-Charge at Kamalpur Police Station, three victims died instantly, while another succumbed to injuries later.
The sudden collapse caused panic among local residents and workers, who rushed to the scene to assist those trapped under the rubble before emergency services arrived.
The large structure collapsed onto workers at the kiln, leading to the fatalities.
Initial reports indicated that there were no signs suggesting the chimney was in danger of falling.
Following the incident, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police quickly arrived to conduct rescue and relief efforts. Heavy machinery was utilized to remove debris and ensure that no individuals were left trapped under the wreckage. The area was secured as a safety measure.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the collapse, focusing on whether safety regulations were adhered to and evaluating the chimney's structural integrity. This incident has reignited concerns regarding workplace safety and adherence to industrial safety standards at brick kilns and similar facilities in the region.
Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed profound sorrow over the fatalities, extending condolences to the grieving families and assuring them of the government's support during this difficult time. He also wished for a swift recovery for the injured and instructed officials to provide adequate medical assistance.
