A tragic incident occurred in the Usahait police jurisdiction of Budaun district. Late Friday night, a moving car suddenly caught fire near Rauta village. This unfortunate event resulted in the death of a young woman, while her husband suffered severe burns. The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Priya Bhardwaj, who was returning home with her husband, Arpit Bhardwaj, from Palia town in Lakhimpur.
Arpit works as a Community Health Officer (CHO) on a contractual basis in the health department, stationed at Kadar Chauk CHC. Priya had undergone surgery for kidney stones just three days prior, and her condition was not stable, prompting her to lie on the back seat of the car while Arpit drove from the front seat. As they approached Rauta village, flames erupted in the vehicle.
What Happened When the Fire Started?
The car doors reportedly locked, making it difficult for them to escape. Arpit managed to free himself and immediately alerted the police. Villagers rushed to the scene, attempting to extinguish the fire with buckets of water. Shortly after, the Usahait police and fire brigade arrived. Although they managed to control the blaze, it was too late for Priya, who had perished in the flames. Arpit is currently receiving treatment for his serious injuries.
Police Investigation
SHO Devendra Singh from Usahait police station stated that the woman's body has been taken into custody. It will be handed over to the family after the post-mortem examination. Arpit's treatment is ongoing, and the police have initiated an investigation into the incident. They are trying to determine the cause of the fire. Given Priya's recent surgery, her position in the back seat made it even more challenging for her to escape.
