In a tragic incident late Tuesday night, two individuals lost their lives and two others sustained injuries when their Alto car veered off the road and plunged into a steep gorge near the renowned Shikari Devi Temple in Mandi district, Himachal Pradesh.


The accident occurred at an elevation of approximately 11,000 feet, in a remote area that initially went unnoticed due to its isolation.


As per police reports, one of the injured passengers managed to ascend from the gorge despite his injuries and reached a nearby roadside, where he alerted individuals camping in the vicinity for assistance. This information was subsequently relayed to the local police station at around 1 am.


A police team quickly arrived at the scene and, with the aid of local residents, initiated a rescue operation to retrieve the victims from the gorge.


The deceased have been identified as Bhupender Raj and Het Ram, both hailing from the Thunag region of Mandi district. The injured individuals, Yog Raj and Puran Chand, were transported to Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College for medical care.


SP Mandi Vinod Kumar confirmed the occurrence of the incident and stated that an investigation into the cause of the accident is underway. He mentioned that the bodies would be returned to their families following a postmortem examination.
