Tragic Bus Collision in Gujarat Claims Lives and Leaves Many Injured
Fatal Accident on National Highway No. 53
In a devastating incident on Tuesday, a collision between two buses operated by the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) near Bardoli in Gujarat's Surat district resulted in the deaths of at least seven individuals and left approximately 40 others injured, according to police reports.
The crash took place on National Highway No. 53, close to Uva village, which serves as a vital link between Maharashtra and Gujarat.
Surat district's Superintendent of Police, Rajesh Ghadhiya, detailed that one bus was en route from Surat to Dhule, while the other was traveling from Chalisgaon in Maharashtra back to Surat.
Ghadhiya explained that the bus heading towards Maharashtra collided with a tractor, lost control, and crossed the median, crashing into the oncoming bus. This impact caused the latter to overturn and end up in a ditch beside the road, subsequently catching fire.
Emergency teams, including police and fire brigade personnel from Surat and the adjacent Tapi district, quickly arrived at the scene to conduct rescue operations.
They managed to free several passengers trapped inside the bus and transported the injured to Bardoli hospital. Tragically, all seven fatalities occurred in the bus that was engulfed in flames, while around 40 passengers sustained injuries.
