In the early hours of Wednesday, a devastating road accident occurred on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway in Dausa district, Rajasthan, resulting in the deaths of at least seven passengers and leaving over 22 others injured. The incident took place when a sleeper bus operated by Hans Travels, traveling from Haridwar/Rishikesh to Indore, collided with a trailer truck. Following the impact, the bus caught fire, engulfing it in flames rapidly.

Preliminary reports indicate that the collision happened near the village of Dhanwad in the Kolwa police jurisdiction between approximately 2:30 and 3:30 AM. Many passengers were asleep at the time of the crash, which hindered their ability to escape.

Eyewitness Accounts

Witnesses described a horrifying scene, with a loud explosion echoing on the expressway. Upon arrival, they found the front of the bus completely lodged into the trailer, with flames spreading quickly. The cries of passengers trapped inside were audible, prompting some to break windows and leap to safety. Local villagers and the Quick Response Team (QRT) arrived promptly to rescue several injured individuals.

Challenges in Identifying Victims

According to Dausa police, five of the deceased were severely burned, complicating identification efforts. Authorities have stated that DNA testing will be conducted in such cases. The police are reaching out to families in Indore, Ujjain, and other districts based on the passenger list from Hans Travels.

Injured passengers were rushed to Dausa District Hospital, with some in critical condition being referred for advanced treatment. Hospital officials report that several victims remain in serious condition.
