Ramanagara (Karnataka), Aug 8: A tragic accident involving a KSRTC bus traveling from Kerala to Bengaluru resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left several others injured. The incident occurred on Saturday when the bus lost control and collided with a large signboard on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway near Avaragere Gate.
According to initial reports, the bus was en route to Bengaluru when the driver lost control, leading to the vehicle crashing into a large directional signboard beside the highway, causing it to overturn.
Two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene, while numerous others suffered injuries, ranging from minor to severe. The injured were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention. The deceased have been identified as the bus driver, Mithilesh, and the conductor, Arun, based on preliminary investigations.
Approximately 20 passengers were reported injured in this incident. Authorities indicated that the driver lost control of the bus during rainy conditions, resulting in the collision with the roadside signboard, which subsequently collapsed due to the force of the impact.
The accident significantly disrupted traffic on the Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway, causing a backlog of vehicles. Emergency services and police quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation and facilitate the removal of the overturned bus to restore normal traffic flow.
Personnel from the Bidadi police station and the Fire and Emergency Services Department were dispatched to the site shortly after the incident was reported.
The specific reasons behind the driver losing control of the bus are still under investigation. The Bidadi police have opened a case to look into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
The bus was making its way from Kozhikode in Kerala to Bengaluru. Fortunately, there were no other vehicles in close proximity at the time of the crash. Further details regarding the incident are awaited.
It is worth noting that a similar incident occurred on March 23, where four passengers lost their lives and many others were injured when a bus crashed into a roadside fence on the Bengaluru–Mysuru Expressway in Karnataka’s Ramanagara district.
