Tragic Bus Accident in Nepal Claims Seven Lives
Fatal Incident in Central Nepal
On March 15, a tragic accident occurred in central Nepal when a passenger bus transporting Indian pilgrims lost control and fell down a slope, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals and injuries to several others.
The incident took place in the Gandaki province, specifically in Gorkha district, as a microbus was returning from the revered Manakamana Temple.
Bharat Bahadur BK, the head of the District Police Office in Gorkha, confirmed the identities of the deceased: Muthu Kumar (58), Anamalik (58), Meenakshi (59), Sivagami (53), Vijayal (57), Meena (58), and Tamilarsi (60).
According to Suraj Aryal, the chief of the District Traffic Police Office in Gorkha, the victims included two women and five men.
Seven other passengers who sustained injuries were rescued and are currently receiving medical care at a hospital in Anbukhaireni, as reported by local media.
The driver of the electric bus emerged unscathed, while his assistant suffered injuries during the incident, according to reports.
Authorities have stated that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing.
Bus accidents are unfortunately common in Nepal, often attributed to challenging terrain, narrow mountain roads, and poor vehicle maintenance. Many areas in this Himalayan nation depend on winding roads that connect isolated communities.
Earlier in February, a similar incident resulted in the deaths of at least 19 people, including a British national, when an overcrowded bus veered off a mountain highway, injuring another 25 passengers.
