Bus Accident in Mandi District

Mandi: A tragic incident occurred on Tuesday morning (June 17, 2025) when a private bus, carrying around 30 passengers, veered off a rain-soaked road and plunged into a gorge near Patrighat in the Sarkaghat subdivision of Mandi district, resulting in one fatality and more than 20 injuries.

The bus was traveling from Jahu to Mandi when the driver reportedly lost control on the slippery surface, causing the vehicle to fall approximately 20 meters into a ravine, where it came to rest precariously over a deep gorge.

Heavy monsoon rains in the area are believed to have played a significant role in the accident, complicating rescue efforts.

Local authorities promptly initiated a rescue operation, but the ongoing rain and challenging terrain made the task difficult. A crane was brought in to lift the overturned bus and assist in retrieving those trapped beneath it.

During the rescue, two individuals were found trapped under the bus; unfortunately, one was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed. Another victim, who was also trapped inside, sustained severe leg injuries, with both legs reportedly fractured, and was quickly transported to Mandi Medical College for treatment.

The Sarkaghat DSP addressed the media, confirming the death and stating, “The rescue operation faced significant challenges due to the rainfall. The crane was crucial for removing the wreckage and accessing the trapped individuals.”

In collaboration with local administration and volunteers, the Himachal Pradesh Police worked diligently to transport the injured to medical facilities. Authorities have advised travelers to exercise extreme caution in hilly regions, particularly during the monsoon season when the risk of landslides and accidents increases.

Sarkaghat MLA Dileep Thakur visited the accident site to oversee the rescue and relief operations, ensuring that the injured received prompt assistance from local authorities.
