Tragic Bus Accident in East Delhi Claims Life of Auto Rickshaw Driver
Fatal Incident in Shakarpur
On Monday morning, a tragic incident occurred in the Shakarpur area of East Delhi when a bus operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) reportedly lost control, resulting in a collision with multiple vehicles and the death of a 63-year-old auto rickshaw driver. An official confirmed the details.
According to police reports, the bus driver, Narendra, 27, from Noida's Sector 63, may have experienced a health emergency that led to the loss of control over the vehicle.
The accident took place around 9 AM near the Mangla Market red light on Vikas Marg, where the DTC bus collided with at least six to seven vehicles, including an auto rickshaw and a car.
Details of the Collision
A police officer stated, "Before hitting the auto rickshaw, the bus struck several other vehicles."
The auto rickshaw driver, identified as Mohammad Heen, sustained severe injuries and was transported to Hedgewar Hospital by bystanders, where he was pronounced dead by medical staff.
The officer added, "The PCR was notified of the accident at 9:30 AM. A team from Shakarpur police station arrived at the scene to find three damaged vehicles: a DTC bus, an auto rickshaw, and a car."
Investigation Underway
At the time of the incident, no other injured individuals were found at the scene. However, police later received information from Hedgewar Hospital that one person had been brought in with injuries and was declared dead.
Authorities have arranged for the body to undergo a post-mortem examination and have informed the family. Legal proceedings have commenced under the relevant sections of the law.
Officials are investigating whether the bus driver experienced any health issues at the time of the accident, which will be confirmed through medical examinations and CCTV footage from inside the bus.
Traffic Disruption and Eyewitness Accounts
The accident temporarily caused traffic congestion on Vikas Marg. Later, cranes were used to remove the damaged vehicles, allowing traffic to resume.
Eyewitness Anil Sharma reported that he was standing nearby when he saw the out-of-control bus collide with five to six vehicles, including an auto rickshaw.
Sharma mentioned, "The auto rickshaw driver died on the spot, and the police team arrived immediately. The bus driver was taken to a nearby hospital, and we learned he had health issues."
Further Eyewitness Insights
Another witness, Jugal Kishore, noted that the auto driver was waiting for passengers when the bus lost control and crashed into several other vehicles.
He stated, "Since we were standing close by, we rushed to the scene. There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the accident."
As of now, there has been no immediate response from DTC regarding the incident.
