Fatal Bus Overturn in Baghlan Province

Kabul: A tragic bus accident in the Salang region of Baghlan province has resulted in the deaths of five individuals and left 44 others injured, as reported by local officials on Sunday.

According to Mohammad Ashraf Haqshenas, spokesperson for Afghanistan's Ministry of Public Works (MoPW), the incident occurred around 2 am local time on Saturday in the Shawal area, north of Salang, as detailed by Pajhwok Afghan News.

Haqshenas indicated that the bus lost control and overturned due to reckless driving, leading to the fatalities and numerous injuries. The injured passengers were promptly transported to the Khanjan district health center for medical assistance.

The ministry urged travelers on this route to heed official guidance and adhere to traffic regulations. Meanwhile, authorities are engaged in snow-clearing efforts along various sections of the Salang highway.

In a related note, local police reported that three individuals died and 16 were injured in two separate traffic incidents across Afghanistan within the last 24 hours.

A collision between two vehicles on the Kabul-Kandahar highway in Ghazni province resulted in two fatalities and injuries to two women. Additionally, in Jawzjan province, other traffic accidents led to one death and 14 injuries.

Officials have attributed these accidents primarily to reckless driving, emphasizing the hazards posed by overcrowded and poorly maintained roadways in Afghanistan.

On December 13, Bilal Urozgani, a spokesperson for provincial police, reported that a traffic accident in Uruzgan province resulted in two deaths and nine injuries.

This incident occurred when a vehicle overturned on a major road, with the injured being taken to the nearest hospital for care. The spokesperson reiterated that reckless driving remains a significant factor in these tragic events.
