Tragic Building Collapse in Delhi: Officials Suspended Amid Investigation

Immediate Action Taken Following Fatal Incident

New Delhi: In a significant move, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi has suspended Deputy Commissioner Rakesh Kumar along with four engineers following the tragic collapse of a building in Satya Niketan, which resulted in seven fatalities and numerous injuries.

The suspension order, which was obtained from a news agency, indicates that the officials affected include Superintending Engineer Ranvir Singh, Executive Engineer (Building) Lalit Kumar Goel, Assistant Engineer (Building) Sunil Chauhan, and Junior Engineer (Building) Ashish Kumar, all from the South Zone.

This action was prompted by the collapse of a five-storey structure that had been in use for decades, specifically a boys' hostel, which occurred on Sunday.

The Municipal Corporation's Vigilance Department issued the suspension orders based on directives from the civic body's commissioner, in accordance with the DMC Services (Control and Appeal) Regulations of 1959.

The officials have been suspended effective immediately under Regulation 5(2), and they will receive a subsistence allowance as per the applicable rules.

The orders were officially signed by Deputy Law Officer (Vigilance) Nand Kishore.
