In Bhivandi, Maharashtra, a four-story building collapsed, resulting in the death of one individual, with fears that seven to eight others may still be trapped under the debris. Officials reported that a section of the Kohinoor building, located in the Balaji Nagar area, fell around 11:30 PM on Thursday night.

Vijay Jadhav, a fire officer from the Bhivandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation, confirmed that one body has been recovered from the rubble, while a boy was rescued with injuries and taken to a nearby hospital.

According to an official, search and rescue operations are ongoing as seven to eight individuals remain trapped. The building, which contained a total of 48 rooms distributed across four floors, had previously been declared dangerous by the municipal authorities.

The incident occurred while repair work was underway at the site. An official noted that local residents heard loud cracking noises from the building around 9 PM on Thursday. Sensing danger, they quickly assisted several families in evacuating to safer locations. However, as some residents were exiting, the 'B' wing of the building suddenly collapsed.

A comprehensive rescue operation is being conducted by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Thane Disaster Response Force, and the local fire department.

Rescue Efforts Underway

The rescue operation has deployed a canine unit, four fire engines, two ambulances, and heavy machinery for debris removal.
