Fatal Incident During Bridge Construction


Cuttack witnessed a tragic incident on Saturday when a concrete slab collapsed during bridge construction over the Kathajodi River, resulting in the deaths of three individuals, including an engineer and two laborers, according to police reports.


In addition, two other workers sustained serious injuries in the accident.


Emergency responders, including local residents and police, quickly arrived at the scene to assist the injured, as stated by Cuttack DCP Khilari Rishikesh Dnyandeo.


The DCP explained that the crane malfunctioned while lifting the heavy concrete slab, which ultimately fell on the workers and the site engineer.


The precise cause of this unfortunate event is still under investigation.


In response to the incident, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has mandated an inquiry.


Rescue teams and police are currently on-site, continuing their investigation.


The Chief Minister expressed his condolences for the victims' families and wished a swift recovery for the injured.


Furthermore, the CM announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for the families of the deceased and assured free medical care for the injured, as reported by the Chief Minister's Office on social media.


Cuttack's Mayor and opposition BJD leader, Subhas Singh, visited the injured at SCB Medical College and Hospital, claiming that the incident resulted from significant negligence by the government.
