Pune Bridge Collapse Incident Overview

Pune Bridge Collapse: A devastating incident occurred on Sunday afternoon when an old, narrow bridge over the River Indrayani near Talegaon in Pune collapsed, resulting in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to 51 others. The injured victims have been transported to various hospitals for medical care. The collapse took place around 3:15 PM, with officials being notified shortly after at 3:30 PM. Emergency response teams were dispatched promptly to the scene.


Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, announced that the state will provide financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic event. Furthermore, the government will cover the medical expenses for the injured.


The deceased have been identified as Chandrakant Salve, Rohit Mane, and Vihaan Mane, while the fourth victim remains unidentified. Reports indicate that approximately 15-20 individuals were on the bridge at the time of the collapse, and many fell into the river, being swept away by the current.

District Collector Jitendra Dudi provided an update, stating, 'We have confirmed 51 injuries, with individuals receiving treatment across various hospitals. Four fatalities have been recorded, three of whom are identified as Chandrakant Salve, Rohit Mane, and Vihaan Mane, while one remains unidentified.' He added, 'The incident was reported at 3:30 PM, and a rescue team of around 250 personnel was mobilized immediately. So far, we have successfully rescued approximately 38 individuals.'


As of the latest reports, a Quick Response Team has arrived at the site to evaluate the situation.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah expressed his condolences regarding the incident and communicated with CM Fadnavis. He conveyed his hopes for the swift recovery of those injured.


In a statement, Shah said, 'I am deeply saddened by the tragic bridge collapse on the Indrayani River in Talegaon, Pune. I spoke with Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis to inquire about the current situation. NDRF teams stationed nearby quickly responded to the site, joining the rescue efforts and saving numerous lives with commendable speed. My heartfelt condolences go out to the families of the deceased, and I pray for the rapid recovery of the injured.'
